That hose is not simply a hose, it is a flexible hose. It has got a second inner plastic pipe. You cannot fit a hose without this damper pipe not only for the wrong (too wide) diameter.

I don't quite understand what you mean are you saying that this what the problem is

Unfortunately I don't have VagCat ill have to invest in that sometime

the pipe has gone back to a hydraulics place to have a restrictive part put in so fingers crossed that will sort it
