PAS hose
 

ok so had that the pipe replaced to today for £40 ( new hose with old connectors ) from hydraulic place in Paignton.

Problem now is after picking the car up today from the garage the steering is really loud like a groaning sound when turning at idle and if the engine is reved when turning it whines even louder. theres also a slight grinding noise and feel coming through the steering wheel and column.

the fluid they put in was COMA MVCHF central hydraulic fluid

suitable for applications requiring CHF11S and CHF202

it wasent like this before so any ideas what they done wrong before I take it back tomorrow

not sure if its the same on your car but on a 3B S2 there is a restrictor in one of the hoses, it could be that this is missing?????
Or the power steering belt is loose??? or worse the pump has gone.

Is it a matter of bleeding the bleeding thing? Not sure if it's relevant. I'm just curious.

I don't think so. The system bleeds automatically and quickly. Possibly the pump has been damaged already by driving the car with a leaking hose? Or the fluid level is low.

G00200 is the Audi/VW spec.....is the above stuff suitable?
Best case scenario would be the garage has let you leave with not enough fluid in it?

The noise seems to be more from the rack I think. I'm heading back there in a minute the steering was fine before it went there

The fluid should be the suitable.
G00200 is the "Green Blood" and you may use some mineral (green and clear) fluids as substitute (i.e. Citroens LHM+ or the above named fluids).

ive just got back from the garage and the steering is quiet when the engine is at idle but still whines loud when the engine is revved and the steering turned. They aren't sure why its doing it but the fluid is green and is circulating properly

they said to drive it for a few days and see if it quietens down

Hmmm, I'm not sure I would want to drive my car around after a garage have done some work and then can't identify the mystery sound. Smacks of edging away from any sort of liability should something be wrong. Been there, done that!

I'd be tempted to drop it back at the garage and say something along the lines of "it wasn't like this before your work but it is now and I don't want it back until it's diagnosed & sorted" and then leave them the keys!

The system should bleed itself, but have a go anyway. Jack up the front so the tyres just clear the ground. Start engine and turn steering wheel to left and right extreme lock half a dozen times.

Check the pump's drive belt is tightened properly (no oil spilt on pulley) and whether there is enough fluid flowing through your new hose.

Sounds like the problem lies with the flow of fluid to your pump as it all seems to have started with the new hose. If insufficient fluid was in the pump as you began to use the car again then damage may have occurred. :sad:
