Default kv engine gremlins

my 2.2 kv engine has a knocking noise in the bottom of it, its in and out of it all the time, any ideas whats wrong? mechanic cant pinpoint it. it taps for a minute or so then stops for another minute or so? im not happy, was just getting excited about getting the bloody thing on the road And to make thinks worse my 80sports oil light flashes on for a second even though its full of oil

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Knocking at the bottom of the engine would indicated big end shells............but I am not a mechanic

Could be a worn bottom end, but could be thrust washers are worn allowing the crank to float and knock.

Either way, needs fixing before it gets any worse.

The only sure way, would be to strip and inspect.
I,ve had 4 KV engines(one with 175,000 mileage) and only had noisey tappets.
Unlucky for you, unless someone,s worked on yours and cocked up.Or its been badly treated,no oil and filter changes?

most common fault is the oil pick up being blocked

thought at first it was tappets, but its not, i only bought it and really dont know the history of it before it came to ireland the guy i bought it from had it stored in a shed for 2 or 3 years. exaust was busted so we didnt hear the tapping until it was fixed.
