From what ive just been reading online, G12 audi coolant is OAT based.. apparently. Also, the new G13 coolant is OAT too, except it also containes silicate? So does that mean its a HOAT? hybrid? So if you are using G12, you have been using OAT based coolant for a while. ??????? |

Correct antifreeze is G11 and is glycol based. I think VAG seem to have confused the market place with their G numbers?....and then there's different colours etc used by different manufacturers. Minefield!!!!......that's an understatement! |

Well feck it then. You cant buy G11 from Audi as they sell you G13. If what you have discovered is correct, then I have been using oat for 15 years plus with no ill effects. I certainly wont be draining it out and putting the blue stuff back in Quote:
![]() Found this: http://forum.skodahome.cz/index.php?...tach_id=313169 As I understand the above, albeit it gets a bit technical at the end, all are ethylene glycol based and from googling the relevant numbers: Type C / G11, Type F / G12+, Type G / G13. There are no caveats on the sheet to say that G13 cannot be used in older engines, if anything it is better for aluminium! (Think Gaz said that at the start). The Halfords oat seems to conform to TL-VW 774 D, which google says is G12. Maybe at least we finally have an answer and can put the oat mystery to bed! Or do we?! ![]() Would be interested to see impirical evidence of the audi supplied oat eating a copper (or otherwise) engine component within the parts service life (i.e its happened to them not some geezer down the pub or some dub-with-a-pineapple-on-the-roof-er)...
