So I've had the car for just six days now and have done 574 miles, using £145 of super premium to do it and averaging 21.8mpg in that time. That includes about 100 miles of round town bumbling where the average has been 15-17mpg. Most amazingly I've spent just shy of 15 hours driving it this week.
My impressions of it haven't changed since I test drove one, it's a remarkable machine, but today I realised a new feeling about it, large amounts of fear... The good stuff first. The acceleration is just intoxicating. The sound from the exhaust as it changes up at the red line is one of the most amazing sounds I've ever heard come from a car. Those seats are incredibly comfortable. I drove for 5 hours today and came out the car as fresh as when I got in it. With all its toys there's plenty to keep me from looking at the fuel gauge when stuck in traffic! I've had a LOT of positive attention, mainly from friends, but also from those who spot and know the badge. The bad: I have genuine fear that I'm going to get into trouble with this car. The acceleration is so aggressive and quick that it takes only 3-5 seconds to get to VERY naughty leptons from 50. I'm hoping it's just the novelty factor and getting used to what the car can do else I may have to sell it on sooner rather than later! Fuel economy on a run is pretty good considering the performance on offer but I find myself cruising at a lower speed in the RS6 than I would in the 530d (which I've still got) and with the lower cruise it's around 24-26 mpg. Last night I didn't sleep very well because it was parked on the street in a fairly dodgy part of Plymouth . with the beemer I would've slept like a baby! but then again it cost me 8x more than the beemer and is only a week old to me so I guess that'll pass too! So achievements this week: My wife, who's used to fast cars was so taken aback by the acceleration from 50 that she felt physically nauseous (my daughter was yelling "again, again!" between chuckles. A guy in a C63 fancied a play yesterday but even though he stole the march on me it was only about 4 seconds before I had to lift off as I was catching that fast. The girl in the passenger seat of the M135 that wanted to stretch its legs on my way home today seemed genuinely surprised that a huge estate car thoroughly spanked their brand new toy!

Fear and a fast car go hand in hand, even a 900c fiat will do a ton, let alone a car that will do it in seconds... Hopefully it'll pass and settle down the urge, but all it takes is some twat in a jumped up car to piss you off and you'll be well into triple figures at the wrong time.
I should know, in one of my previous cars I spent a whole night staring at the ceiling thinking I was losing my licence after coming round a bend and seeing a grey camera (which I thought was a GPS distance job is but turned out to be traffic masters new ones) - I might have been bouncing off the speed limiter just before that at the agreed German manufacturer's limit... On a private stretch of road of course I sold her about a month after Although I hear that Fear is part of a healthy relationship! Anyway, all that aside, good economy figures |

Update on costs for the car:
Insurance has actually come down to £293 fully comp. Tyres pirelli P Zero Rosso's for 275/35/20's are £170 each (not bad) Brakes, well that's another matter! Quote for Audi for non ceramic discs and pads all round - £1,807.72! Spoke at length to a number of places who couldn't better it then spoke with euro crap parts who could source parts from Pagid (audi OEM) for £1,250, £600 of which are the REAR discs which can only come from audi! 850 miles so far I've averaged 20.5mpg Still enjoying it!

For an Audi discount try TPS and tell them that you are a minicab driver albeit a rather fast one..... On a more serious note TPS do give discount to Joe Public so worth an ask to better the rear disc price - also end of the month so after their quotas so might be more liable to do so.

Euro had the same (exact same less audi logo) parts for £228 & £150. Will look up TPS though. Not needed any time soon but thought I'd get an idea of costs to make sure a) I want to keep the car and b) I have the monies in place for when they're needed!

These running costs are why this level of car ends up with six owners in the next three years, no one spending any money on them. £100'000 cars to buy, are always £100'000 cars to run no matter what age they are.

Anywho, I'm second owner and I can see myself keeping this for a while yet, especially if I do get new brakes (they're only 50% worn at the mo) as I'd want me moneys worth ![]()

Darren's correct , it's why many b5 , b7 rs4 and rs6s change owners quite a lot , the brakes are dealer only ( discs ) and most of the aftermarket odds are a bit iffy . I've changed discs and pads on both of mine . Tyres are fairly cheap but suspension can be expensive too

I don't think it is, to keep on top, really on top of real performance cars, it takes real attention and real money, ie an E63 carbon brake set up costs 6k to replace when needed, who spends 6k on a 20 grand car ? Look around new ones and you don't see budget tyres or non branded parts that only happens after a few years when the percentages to cost take over. Lots of these are run on a shoestring for a short period, then moved on to the next one who buys it thinking a bit of fun until it needs something, then it's traded in and so on. It's how they get old really quickly.
