Almost certainly the valve pictured up-thread.
The cable outer sheath slips where it clamps to the valve, meaning you either never get full hot or full cold. Move the heater lever from hot to cold on the dash and make sure you get full movement of the arm on the valve, if not, unclip the cable clamp and re-position the cable. If you're lucky, it's a 30 second fix... |

Tried this tonight, and adjusted it a little, and it has made a difference, no doubt about it. So many thanks for that. BUT it still warmish ish. Is it worth just replacing the valve?? Theres a brand new meyler one on ebay at the moment. Will try stylers idea of an air lock in the system tomorrow. As for other peoples ideas, when warm, both pipes going into the bulk head are hot. All hoses toasty.

Maybe you could take the valve out and replace it temporarily with a bit of hard pipe to join the hoses to see if the valve is at fault?
If it's still no better, it does sound like you have an air lock or blockage in the heater matrix. |

Hiya
Been having the same problem with my 80E for over 5years now. Heater matrix was replaced (apparently! - if you can call garage comment of it being full of c&** and then his bodge put back together of dash replacing it!) and it worked fine for about a year or so, now only blows cold, regardless of heat setting. I've since had endless coolant and other hoses replaced, coolant system flushed & bled, radiators switches/temp sender switches/water pump housing thermo replaced - all to no avail! Awaiting the warm weather now as my next step is to remove bleed hose and the one next to it (which go in and out of matrix) whilst the car is cold, and to force water under pressure through it to see if it will clear any blockage. Failing that, I'm looking at getting a new matrix myself and having that fitted by my trusted garage, which means at least a week without my car! Meantime, it's a case of continued elbow grease to remove the frost from both inside and outside of the car, and a hot water bottle on the way to work during the cold weather - I kid you not! ![]() |

From my last tweak with the heater valve ive realised that its improved only a little. I drove the car into work this morning, taking advantage of the snow
and my car never really heated up all the way in. As soon as I got to work, jumped in my landrover and only after 5 mins its was nice and toasty!Im the same as you, as soon as it warms up ive got to tackle it

Another thing to consider (and you may have done this already). Remove the screws from the the coolant reservoir, remove the cap and run the car up to temperature as you do so hold the reservoir in the air, you still may have an airlock somewhere. I also thought it might be the cable but someone else thought that as well - I had the opposite always hot!
