so if damage has occurred as a result who would be at fault, the garage for letting it leave making that noise ( and telling me it would quieten down after a few miles ) or the hydraulics place for not making the correct pipe?

i'm not fitting the bill for a new rack ( which I cant help but think is fecked now )

We just had our 3rd baby last night so I just don't have the money for a big job like changing the rack. Ive read on here its the best part of a days labour to change

I think the pump is fine as the white thing inside the bottle was going up and down when turning the wheel and the steering isn't heavy

It wasn't like it before it left my work place ( garage collected ) and the leak wasn't even that bad

Also the noise is coming from the rack not pump. When the engine is reved slightly and then you turn the wheel it whines really loud and you can feel vibration coming through the pedals

im gutted

All the best for your growing family especially for Mum and baby!
As described now, I'd suspect a lack of fluid flow. Possibly the pipe diameter isn't proper or the strainer inside the banjo bolt is clogged.

ok quick update -

the hose was taken off the car and the garage think that it is because when the new pipe was built the hydraulic place didn't put in the constrictive part from my old pipe. As a result when the engine is reved the pressure through the system goes up and the part in question stops this from happening and keeps the pressure constant hense why it is quiet at idle

The hydraulics place have disposed of my old pipe so now im stuck until I can find a 2nd hand one.

Lets face it ive probably got more chance of winning the lottery before I find this part

so if anyone knows of anyone breaking a 4 cylinder audi 80 B3 can you let me know cheers

I'll give myself a pat on the back then

I wouldn't think its your car specific, as I said a S2 uses a restrictor so I expect they all do.

this is a diagram of what im after

http://autopartmaster.com/en/?action...0/Avant%201992

number 25 in the illistration

I cant even find a part number for it

the part number I thought it was for the 5 cylinder so lucky I didn't buy it but this part looks like its specific to the 3A and AAD engine that's found in the 80 and 100 1988 - 1990

I didn't read yet for what the hose is needed. An Audi 80 / 90, or 100?

Item 25
894422893H

Details pulled straight from VagCat, which is a damned sight easier to navigate than something in Russian.

Of course!
That hose is not simply a hose, it is a flexible hose. It has got a second inner plastic pipe. You cannot fit a hose without this damper pipe not only for the wrong (too wide) diameter.
