Sure I saw something the other day where UK Local Authoritues are thinking if reclassifying 'some' B roads as bridle ways and green lanes as this would mean they don't have to maintain them...
THEY DON'T BLADDY MAINTAIN THEM ANYWAY!
Where I live you could lose a whole wheel down a pothole and until 2 days ago one of roads here that is particularly dangerous due to its blind bends and adverse cambers still had snowdrifts obliterating one lane and edging into the other lane.
Obviously no local councillers live along it then!

being pedantic.... it hasn't been road tax since 1937 in the UK. Vehicle excise duty.... OK TAX !!

Just paid £220 for my 80 Sport - it does well under 2K per year and £280 odd for my A4 and that does about 4000 miles a year ( its a 1.8T quattro with 227 gms CO ; argghh - 3 less and it would be cheaper! )

if i wasnt afraid that they would seize the car and possibly crush it id just stop paying.. i thought about buying a dirt cheap runaround, and just go with out tax, if the fine me enough that i have to go to prison they will have to pay to look after me till my sentence ended..

silly thing is Governments are steadily killing their income source, like the petrol duty here, keeps going up and up so mileages go down . Result less fuel bought = less revenue !
