Twas a pre facelift car and the dealer had tried to mask the smell but it was oozing from everything.

My commute is only 3 miles which I now ride again and we have a 330d as a 'sensible' car and a 147 as a spare car, I don't need anything else. Same could be said on a classic audi - certainly no need for any of them!

But want is a different matter! I don't smoke, rarely drink, have few hobbies. cars is where I'm at!

Get a 'Stang! Total motoring icon! Always, always have a V8, it's what the muscle car era was all about.

You can quote the bottomless pit of car makes, models (and the endless rows of numbers and letters that follow) and get a blank expression of anyone who's not a motoring nerd, but say you drive a Mustang..... well, that's all you need to say!

I've had two. A '70 Mach1 with a 351ci Cleveland and 4 speed Toploader and now a '95 SVT Cobra (see photo)

Gah, confusion runs rife, agree with you that mustang everyone seems to know the name of and I don't know many if any cars that can do that. The RS6 when mentioned gets "ooh nice car" but only from those who know! Ironically if I said "I've got a panamera I reckon a few would sick a bit in their mouths!"

What was your experience of stang ownership? reliability, running and servicing costs, resale value?

That looks like one angry car! Didn't really like the last shape mustang but that does look like it'd eat everything infront of it!

Mustang ownership is easy. Forget all the worries about importing stuff, there are plenty who specialise in parts over here and it's not difficult doing it yourself.

'64 to '73 cars are easy to work on as you would expect and there's virtually nothing that isn't available parts wise. My '95 is starting to give me parts issues as there were so few Cobras made that many specific parts are long since obsolete. General service items are readily available and dirt cheap though.

The '05 to '14 model, known as the S197 has a huge following and are proving to be very reliable vehicles with few issues. Even these are highly predictable and can be sorted by the specialists.

The new model (S550) uses the 5.0 Coyote engine which has been around for a few years and again is very reliable.

What you have to remember with a Mustang is that it was conceived over 50 years ago as a 'Blue Collar' sports car. Too many expect Audi/ BMW/ Merc build quality for this Ford and moan when they don't see it.

Another thing to consider about the latest generation of Mustang engines is that Cosworth here in Northampton are currently "highly tuning" the engine to be in the next gen TVR so there will be a lot of power options moving forward

Simple really- you cancel out your boring vice-free sensible image as an accountant... by choosing a car that's as opposite to that lifestyle as possible....just get Mustang!

(you know it makes 'sense'
