Nothing wrong with the sub £2k market. Most of my cars cost less than £2k and preferred them to company cars I had for 15 years. Is that the avant that was recently on Car and Classic?

I went in with my eyes open and expected a lot more running cost wise than my V8 S4 was, turned out it averages about 2-3 mpg less than the S4, so not bad at all.

Considering clients pay my mileage at 45p a mile, then I am 18p a mile in credit, which averages out and pays for my personal mileage

You know what, that's not bad.

My 4.2 V8 has an average of 20.4mpg since I owned it, however my commute is a b&tch, 3 miles - 20-50 minutes (I started walking/cycling!)

On a run it'll crack 30mpg mind

If the S8 is so close in mpg I may end up trading mine up!

30mpg is good, I think if I was to bother about being economical I could probably get to about 25-26mpg on a run, but because of the business/personal mileage thing I mentioned above I don't.

If I end up driving to San Remo in July you can bet I will be making the most of the cruise and pottering down, seeking every last mile out of it lol

You know how good these 8's are, but some of the parts/repairs for the S are considerably higher than the A, if you do, make sure you get the B&O, its a wonderful thing!!!

Yes! I don't want to temp fate but I honestly believe using it daily is doing it a big favor mechanically. I had little issue with a sticking front caliper first time I used it this year but, touch wood, it's going great.
Have you still got yours?

I got lucky with mine, picked it up from a guy whose dad was first owner and him second. Had extended audi service history up to 4 months before I bought the car so all the scary expensive things have been replaced by audi under their (TWO GRAND A YEAR!) warranty, including the air suspension completely replaced and MMI gears replaced with alloy ones to name but a few. In other words an exceptionally well looked after car!

To be fair though if I were to change I think i'd stretch to the newer shape 4.2tdi, faster than the old S8 (scary progress!) and yet still able to do mid 40's on a run in lwb guise as I miss not having folding rear seats for my bike so the extra legroom will allow it to sit nicely in the footwell!

Pleased it was bought by an enthusiast rather than a dealer. Will be interested to hear how you get on with it. Is it a keeper?
