thats very good price with penalty points, im paying 179.00 for 80GL 3,000 miles p/a downfall was let my insurance lapse due to taxi so now on 0,NCB with flux direct, they were the cheapest by far for me.

that's hilarious as when i told them that the ur quattro would be laid up for the next 6 months the girl said, "dont worry - there's no EXTRA CHARGE for that!!"

thanks for your information, everyone - i'll get into finding a new broker in the next week or so.

yup, sureterm were the best i found, stephen - £141 for the quattro but unfortunately they wouldn't touch the 90 quattro as it is "too modern"!! so how come footie james will insure it as a classic car?!! bloody hell!!

Different insurers/underwriters have different requirements when it comes to classifying as a classic.

My 1998 S4 was on classic insurance with Classicline, as it was deemed a 'future' classic. Meanwhile, same insurer would insure a 1990/G V8 as a classic, but a 1993/K V8 was too modern by 1 year.
Bizarre, and unfathomable. They probably have a very complex math formula to make the decision, starting with think of a number between 0 and 9, multiply by...

I've just discovered by accident that the length of time you've owned your car has a dramatic affect on the price of your premium.

If I bought my Beemer in 2004, it would cost me £190 per year but because I've only owned it since July 2012 it was £300.

I can't understand why the length of time you've owned a car has such an affect on insurance but there you go.

Familiarity of the car and its quirks. Many many drivers damage their car during the first few months/years of ownership. Goes especially so with cars that are high powered (or I'd imagine, a lot of gadgets - ooh how do I do that clever thing - eyes off the road - crunch!)

Makes sense to me.

Are you one of these people who change your details over and over again to see what affects your insurance? I certainly do and I'm amazed at some of the things that can make a difference!
