Looks a lovely one Andy.

My Bora with the 1.9TDi 90 bhp averages well into the 60's, the curent average mpg since I have owned it is 66.6MPG (devilishly frightening!)

Get the cambelt done asap - a genuine kit inc cambelt, tensioner etc & water pump is £144 (+£45 surcharge for the water pump, which you get refunded); then labour on top unless you can do it yourself. Gives you an excuse to totally flush the cooling system too....

Mine will not drop below 45mpg however hard I try, However a 1.6 petrol would be a lot less with the same treatment. Had a 1.2 POLO hire car when my passat was in for repair a few years back, it was so slow I had my foot to the floor for virtually the whole time and my average over the 2 weeks was just 30mpg Pretty p*** poor.
The best I have had out the A4 1.9 is 57mpg on a weeks trip to Southern Ireland a few years ago. Average is 50mpg... pretty amazing the way I drive
