Default Rear caliper options for typ 89 90Q?

Finally got the car in for MOT and the fail list isn't too bad. (a few advisories presented themselves which I am going to act on now rather than wait until later for them to become problems, thus freeing me up to get on with the planned enhancements)

As to be expected, the rear brakes acquitted themselves in what seems to be the usual manner (binding, no handbrake at all on one side)!

Curious to know, is there any rear caliper interchangeability (sp)?

While I'm at it, is there a bolt on replacement caliper for the front that will allow fitment of bigger discs? Going to renew the discs and pads anyways so figured it wouldn't hurt to improve on what is there while I'm at it.

humble thanks as usual

Hi James,
If the piston still moves you can replace the release spring with the stiffer one from a ford granada, (its often the relaease spring that goes) Theres one or two bolt on replacements but im not sure what rear disc would be compatible as the upgrades ive seen are 5x112 not 4x108

Front end- depends on your budget. s2 twin pots with n/a 90 20v discs (276mm ) would bolt straight on, next would be tt calipers (same as the ones used corrado 312mm conversion) with ford focus discs. After that porker monoblocks or similar with focus discs

hth

Nice one Gav

S2 twin pots would be ample, I'm not wanting to go bigger than 16" rim wise (or is the 312 mm conversion for corrado's something that was fitted to the good lady's VR. under the Borbets?)

Cheers for the heads up on the springs, which Granada? (scorpio?)

Will be making a start on it all tmw afternoon - would be great if the calipers don't need replacing (fingers crossed but not counting on it)

The piston is fine on both (wound in no probs) but one their is no piston movement at all using the handbrake. The rear brakes pads were almost welded to the carriers - whoever fitted them was an ape, they were so badly placed (massive gouge from the lip of the disc).

Gonna go on and order new D & P all round, trying to find the Granny springs but can't make my mind up on the uncooperative caliper...
