Quick update. Did a brim to brim calculation from this weeks travels, which comprised solely of commuting too and from work (3.5 miles each way) 41.3 miles travelled and 16.8 litres of fuel consumed. Yep that's 11.1mpg for the week!! Made slightly better by a 23mpg round trip to Weymouth today with some spirited driving.
I've had the car for a month now and have done 1,100 miles and being honest I don't really know how I feel about it. It's a nice place to be, sounds great on startup and full chat, goes like nothing I've ever driven but it's just missing something, possibly engagement or maybe it's just too refined and detached to experience it all (I know the sound deadening removes too much engine noise for my liking). It might be that it's too fast. I know it sounds stupid but pretty much nothing on the road can get close to what this thing can do especially acceleration from 70. There's literally 5 seconds of full throttle before I'm close to double that speed which is knocking on for jail time and the car is only engaging when at full chat. Also, bloody accountant brain is constantly whispering in the back of my head (that's 30p/mile in fuel alone it chants!) So I'm in a funny place right now. Do I keep it or let it go and if it's the latter what the chuff DO I get to replace it! I'll likely not lose a penny on the car thankfully and I'll then have a £25k budget for.... seriously have no idea! Bought a second Alfa 147 last week, a ducati corse 170bhp edition and that's an absolute hoot to drive, but have given that to my wife so even though it's a great drive I'm not sure I could live with the lusso 120bhp version we also have everyday (although no matter how you drive either one they won't do LESS than 45mpg!)

Just a shame about the 2+ tonnes of lard it's got to drag along for the ride (and that's before you count me!)

Missed this thread until now and just have to say Awesome !....absolutely awesome.
However, your fears about licences etc I quite understand as those very reasons were what made me sell the only UR quattro I've ever owned back in the mid eighties. As a responsible "citizen" it would not have gone down well to lose my licence and the temptation is always so great. Take care as the fuzz are quite unforgiving. |

So, as it turns out my RS6 ownership was to be a short term thing.
Various reasons for sale but the main ones were: 1. S*^$ scared of getting zapped at some stupid speed; 2. Cost me a lot of money and I really liked it but something didn't quite gel (probably the fact I needed a loan for half of it and I'm not used to debt on a car!); 3. Fuel cons started to get to me - 12-15mpg on my commute, never more than 24mpg on a run (good for a 700bhp monster but still!) 4. The price I sold it for meant I turned a £2k profit! Car actually earned me £0.80 a mile after fuel, tax & insurance! I swapped out to our 'spare' Alfa 147 ducati corse which promptly chewed its clutch and DMF, so whilst that was in the garage I found myself on a train to Telford where I picked up an A8 (D3 model) 4.2 V8 petrol which a ton of toys! Amazed by the fact that on the 180 miles home last night it averaged 30mpg and I wasn't hanging around! Will pop some pics up later tonight ![]() Now just need to buy an 'engaging' car for the weekends!
