Display Pixelation
Hi does any one know if the information display on later Audis can be repaired,I'm looking at an A6 2.5 TDI and the display is badly pixelated to the point of being unreadable.
Thanks Andy |
Pretty sure my mates 2001 S3 display was like this, he ended up buying a second had working cluster/clocks

my 2000 a6 has a few missing, but not constantly :) I'm sure there is a new screen available to buy (not original), but then you have to send your clocks somewhere to get this screen fitted or something. I'll have a look if I can find that page still. I think it's l.e.d screen which will work as a replacement properly and it WILL last "forever".

I think the display is an LCD, which is clamped down onto a couple of contact pads. If the surface gets dirty, or even a little loose, the display goes random. At least, this is how the centre display is on one of mine.
It may be worth simply opening it up, cleaning the contact surface and reassembly. |
Very common fault, which is repairable. http://www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk/re...yna/?make=audi

Can't find that page mate.. But there's some on ebay aswell.

I can thoroughly recommend clusterrepairs - at least in Great Yarmouth !
£150 and done within the hour. New display, better connectors/wiring anda 5 year warranty. Actually it cost nmore than £150, as we went shopping so it was M&S Debenhams Costa Palmers ( large dept store - bit oldy worldy ... but OK !) |
It's the display itself. Only way to fix it is to replace the display inside. It has a fine-pitch connection and is soldered on the cluster. If you never soldered some fine electronics then you'd better bring it away.
A new original VDO display costs ~80 euro, see ebay item 140688583568. I've changed some displays the past 3 years. Keep in mind that Audi also used a Jaeger cluster, the VDO display can't be used for these units. You need a specific (only after-market) display for it. How to check: if the backside is completely black it's a VDO. If a large part is white it's a Jaeger. |

Thanks for all the replies, not too much of a problem, the A6 I was looking at is a very tidy car with a good history, but a bit to expensive at the asking price, the brakes need serious attention new, disks and pads all round and perhaps a couple of calipers, it does have some other problems to sort so I'll pass on this one,
