Funny seeing those lights on that vehicle lighting up the wilderness like that, cos thats about how good the quadlamps were on the old coupe after id uprated the bulbs and wiring....640 watts of power ...like a lighthouse. :)
Roll on the quads on the ur. :D |
Sorry to hi-jack this thread,
but, is there anything can be done for the B3 90, without upsetting the auto check? Main beam is fantastic, but dipped beam is complete poo (even with the latest osram nightbreakers.) TIA Dan. |
I've installed relays in dash loom, complete OEM style, without specific knowledge nobody will realize that two black bosch relays in aux relay carrier isn't there from factory, and my headlight loom now contains two 2,5 mm2 wires for low beams and four 4 mm2 wires, two for high beams and two for ground. I can't tell the difference as I installed thicker wires as a part of A90/coupe headlight upgrade, my eyesight is rather well and I was too lazy to measure - but before there was 12,1v on bulb of left split headlight in low beam mode, while on battery was 13,5v - when the car will be back in one piece, I'll measure - chap with knowledge calculated that this upgrade should've increased voltage on right headlight for almost volt, I guess for high beams.

umm
I have a garage without light and power, and it's cold at the moment but maybe in the spring, when it is much warmer, I'll think about an upgrade to something similar. I have relays mounted on front chassis member behind left hand headlamp. I have never been totally happy as they are very exposed to the elements - not being splashed directly from the road, but could be better and neater! |

Ok so uprating the loom in the 90 sounds like a bit of a ball ache removing looms. (I may go that route if and when the engine has to be rebuilt or changed)
Anyone any experience of the 100/80w offroad bulbs? Are they worth a try? Bare in mind i'm not to bothered that the would be illegal considering the amount of boy racer saxo's and corsas that blind me with their aftermarket hid kits(and the local law doesn't seem to bothered by them). My thinking is at least the beam pattern would be correct with the offroad bulbs. Thoughts? |
No definitely not worth it.
If you have trouble with the current lights ,drawing extra current with higher wattage bulbs will not help, in fact may damage the switches ( as they will be passing more current than they were designed for). When these autocheck B3/4s were new there was a way around the autocheck - I believe the circuit(s) needed a small resistor to 'fool' the auto check into thinking all was OK. There is no need, in fact one shouldn't remove the exisiting loom, using it as a 'switching'system for the extra wiring that is added, along with two fused relays. I just ran the new wire (covered for extra safety - I'm just like that!) from the battery along the existing wiring zipping ( or tape) together. Would a wiring diagram help? If so I'll look for mine tomorrow and can provide a link here, to the diagram (that will have to be on Photobucket). I can't help about the resistor but there must be somebody here who could advise on that aspect. |
