poor nite vision

I am tired of not having enough lite to see were I'm going so I am adding these.

what are your thoughts

Before spoiling the looks, consider the actual supply to the lights.
We have a lot of fun with the UR/Coupe here in the UK. Old (and borderline gauge) wiring, with old connections, reducing the supply to the lights, results in a major drop off in efficiency.

Some have resorted to using an additional relay loom, with the switching done by the original cabling. Limiting volts drop.

For Quattro/Coupe with double lights (pre 1983'ish) I noticed on a german quattro site they looked at DE lens lights from a Neoplan bus.

- rechts 1BL 005 380-021 (non-UK)
- links 1BL 005 380-011 (non-UK)

Needs some modification to the airfilter box on K-Jet to fit. A proper DIY guy can optionally fit the HID stuff from 1'st generation TT into these lamps.

Anyways, with age comes the need for more lights on the car while driving at night

I'm with The Real MSH on this.
I have relays on my B2 - have had for 25 years!
It ensures that the bulbs get 13.5 + volts not as little as 10-11 volts -- and it saves the switches from burning out as well.
I have probably got a proper wiring diagram somewhere, if it would be of help.
For several years I ran 100/90 w H4 bulbs in mine, as well , with no problem ( other than they are illegal! )

These looms are pretty easy to make up and just require some larger gauge wiring, H4 & main beam connectors, standard relays and fuses, switched by the original setup, plug & play. Not sure if the kits are still available, but I have the same setup on the ex-Birkitt 80q!

well thows take standard h4 bulbs I don't have to rewire anything.

well what a surprise ! I bet it was me that told Neal to do it, although I don't remember actually working on the car !!
Brian Ricketts use to sell complete diy kits of parts .... these days it's make up your own .... and even I can do that !

Very neat, much cleaner than my setup ( but mine is 25years old !!) I particularly like the sealed (?) box with the relays and fuses.

It's an outdoor 240V/400V junction box so sealed with a rubber gasket.

I've had one of the first versions in my wife's Golf 1 Cab since 2006 (iirc) until one of the relays gave up a few years ago. Never got around to fixing it though.

Installation is simple, unplug lamps and mate male/female plugs, connect red/black wires to battery. Done.
