Default XH558 at Cosford Air Show

Not sure if it's landing (as the runway is really short at Cosford), but the Vulcan is making an appearance at Cosford Airshow this year.

Only problem, is it clashes with the Deva Dubs 'n' Rods V W Show which I've been to for the past 6 years and by all accounts is a superb show.
But seeing the Vulcan right on my doorstep is an opportunity I don't want to miss!

And I could charge £5.00 a pop parking on the Sunday as well!!

and a £1.00 each for tea and coffee and make a fortune!!!!!!!!!

I went to RAF Bruntingthorpe a couple of years or so ago for one of their open days. Saw loads of old cold war planes doing taxi runs including Victors and English Electric Lightenings. The Vulcan as still undergoing resto at the time (where the feck do you start to restore one of those??). Any chance to see this baby flying really should be taken if only to pay big respect to those who flew them, who put their lives on the line in the cold war and who know that part of our Aircraft buliding history died when we decomissioned these.

Did you know that at the height of the cold war, if you were in the RAF on standby to fly one of these fully laden with the nuclear detterent, that flying out you would probably have no country to fly back to ??? Food for thought.

It's been over 20 years since I last saw it and having it on my doorstep is an opportunity too good to miss.
I'm having a dilemma now though as we alway go to Deva as a club and have about 40+ members there from our local VW club.

I'd 'do' the Vulcan too.... It's a machine with a rightful pedestal in mechanical and aviation history... A truly awesome event from an engineering point of view.

Vulcan every time. From what I hear it may not be in the air for much longer. Its incredibly expensive to run and maintain.

I last saw it at Cosford about 20 years ago. Set every car alarm off in the area, simply awesome!

Last Bank holiday weekend the Victor at Bruntingthorpe accidently took off on a fast taxi run

Opppsss!!!!

Saw XH558 back on its last tour before it was taken out the skys, then last year it was a regular visitor over the house on its way to Brize Norton after constantly breaking down - I suspect the same again this year

now that is my favourite cold war bomber, largely overshadowed by the Vulcan. I did Bruntingthorpe about 3 years ago and the Victor was absolutely deafening. Also made the fatal mistake of sitting on the grass bank at the end of the runway while one of the English Electric Lightenings open it's jet engine full blast. The heat and blast was staggering. My poor lad was only about 10 at the time and he ran like a bat out of hell

My favourite all time cold war plane has to be the McDonnel F4 Phantom. Flying one of those babies off the Ark Royal must have been a joy

I think I'm right in saying a band of hell-bent enthusiasts still fly a couple of EE Lightnings in South Africa... Almost worth the cost of the flight to go and see one leave the earth for 10 minutes.
