Default Changing Of The Guard

I put the coupe into storage last week to play with the beemer for a few months. I will be lurking around these parts from time to time and hope to see some of you at Haigh Hall on August 8th at the German Classic Car Show.

Anyway, Sunday was out for lunch and a brief photo shoot. A very different experience to the Audi as you would expect but I grin from ear to ear in this thing.

Oh and did I mention parts? Easy to get and cheap as chips

Sorry to say it a friend of mine had the same car albeit a 2.8 E36 with the Mtec body kit and suspension and it was the worst interior as far as rattles and squeeks and groans i have ever experienced.Horid car i thought from that point of view as a passenger. The engine is the peach of these cars. He had owned his e36 for 16 years only getting rid of it last year as the rust was starting to bother him. He now has one of these albeit a coupe version, couldn't find a decnt image of one which is a much nicer car than his E36.Nice and firm yet quiet suspension,he has just rebuilt with new bushes etc.I have to say i enjoyed going out in it.

If you had purchased the well built E30,my preference would be the 318is, i would BE jumping for joy for you.Sadly good ones are becoming expensive now.

Your 100% right about BMW parts availability being excellent and if you not bothered about Genuine Bmw parts then parts are cheap. I would say we should all get out of the Audi game (i'm not ready yet though) as a kick in the face to Audi and we would all be far happier knowing you can get parts for any bmw at reasonable prices except the 2002 range of which in my past i owned several including the 2002 Tii.As much as i liked the 2002 cars the 1986 B2 90 quattro i drove back in 89/90 just blew me away and so the passion for Audi's began.

All the best anyway.

No problems with bumps, squeaks and rattles on this. 120K mileage and it still feels as tight and well built as many cars I've driven straight out of the showroom. Got a few minor cosmetic niggles to sort including a sagging headlining which I've just sourced and the front splitter needs a repaint.

I did consider an E46 but they just dont have that "old school" look that I wanted and with the array of drivers aids fitted it was a bit too modern. Agreed they are a superb piece of quality kit.

Trying to find an unmolested, untracked, unraced, unstanced and unmodified E36 is becoming hard. Mine has a full complement of history, minimal owners and provenance and since owning it, it's probably had a grand put on it simply stood doing nothing.

Was tempted by the earlier E30 but M3 prices are through the roof at £30K plus and it just seemed to obvious a choice for a classic Beemer.

I'm with you on the frustration with finding an unmolested car. I wouldn't mind if some body had port and matched a head that's a genuine improvement and not seen but of course the Boy dicks can't seam to help themselves stancing etc etc. These guys are so predictable like flies on a freshly laid turd. Bless them .. .. they can't help it with so few brain cells.

This guy seems to get some lovely Beemers.

Ive bought a couple off him over the years. A highly recommended genuine dealer IMO

Prices are rising rapidly as well.

Yes, as you rightly say, to me he jumps out as having all the best cars and just round the corner from me.

Trying to source saleable classic audi stock would be a major problem for any specialist audi dealer.

Sad to say but BMWs tend to weather rather better if looked after.

The old Audis seem to be rather more temperamental.
