Default My 1987 URQ
Seller Type : Private
Vehicle Make : Audi
Vehicle Model : UR Quattro - WR
Price : £5000+
Location : Southampton

So sun is starting to shine, my car is just about ready so I thought I'd take the opportunity to give it a little jaunt around the back roads near me. Five miles later, cars running fine but I'm not. It's been the wrong side of 18 months since I last drove the car more than a few miles and I've gotta say I felt nothing.

I've been on a hell of a journey these last 18 months getting the cars engine rebuilt, not to mention some painful bills along the way - new turbo anyone.... and I think it's these factors more than anything else that's led to me falling out of love with the car. Now that I've realised there's less love for the car than I thought I had it's feeling like the time to sell, before I drive it too much and end up wanting to keep it!

As to value, well I've always been honest about the car and what's good and not so good with it. If in doubt read my rebuild thread. This car still has massive potential, I've always concentrated on the mechanicals and under the skin bits rather than the overall look of the car.

In summary though the car is mechanically 'there' with countless new bits including rebuilt engine, hybrid turbo, silicone hoses etc etc etc but bodywork & fit and finish of interior is far from concourse. There's no nasty rot on the car at all but the front wings need attention and there's spots here and there - all surface.

I've put a price of £5,000 as a starting number. I'd like to gauge potential interest over the next week or so and will consider offers until next sunday when I'll choose the best offer.

I know it's something that I'll eventually regret but right now I'm struggling to think of reasons why keeping the car is better than a few quid in the bank to spend on family and security.

Latest picture attached below. Dozens more on my thread here:

P.S. I'm considering chopping in the Octavia too - time for a change on that too!

That's such a shame. I think we've all become disillusioned at times. However, they are all just a car, and we don't all get the same thing from the experience.

Hi Mark, I know. I think the car has always been bittersweet with me. Amazing sound and feeling when on the move, epically quick thanks to the many many upgrades but there's always been something to neutralise the immense feeling that driving the car gives me.

Now I know in my heart of hearts that I've gone and sorted pretty much everything mechanically on the car but those previous experiences seemed to have taken their toll. I've put an 8 day window on it as it'll give me another chance to get her out and about and see if my feelings are any different....

Can empathise with you Dave, I'm only going on the experience of owning a coupe gt for some 13 years and I loved every minute of it, I'm just hoping I'll feel the same when the Ur's finished, I certainly got all funny when I smelt the interior in it, have a particular smell of their own.
A right blast from the past, but as TheRealMsh has said, different people get different things out of them, some cars you never manage to gell with, others you just click with.

Sad day Dave, but as above, a lot of empathy.... We've had our Ur since 1995 and it'd take our combined bereavement before it goes to a new home. The Rallywreck however, is a different ball game.... When we bought Derek and Rose's old CQ we loved it, with a passion, and when it was stolen we were utterly gutted... So when the Rallywreck arrived immediately after, it was spiritually at a bad time... And it shows. I've really enjoyed the car, spent a fortune on it and loved owning it, but we are still struggling to 'click'. Ive recently changed jobs which has helped immensely, as I've driven it more and finally started to appreciate its charms. The 20vT transplant didn't help either, as the character of the car 'flipped' totally, from a slow, deafening, outrageous animal to an immensely fast, quiet and smooth pussycat. To love a car, you have to drive it, its that simple...

Well, in any case, you've made an admirable effort getting it back together, this far.

Dave
It's gonna be a sad day when the URq goes especially after all your hard work. Are you sure you're doing the right thing? We all have stories and regrets about cars we have sold in the past and this may haunt you in ten years time, but maybe not because these quattros are very expensive to look after.
When you go on your 'last drive for old times sake' pop round, I've never been in another other than mine.
I'm sure it will generate plenty of interest on this forum and others and the word will soon spread about a URq being sold.

I hope it all works out for you.

So, looks like the cars going to have at least a new regulator and possibly a whole new alternator before she finds a new home! One final parting blow to the bank balance! lol

I'll bloody want to keep it after though, just know it!

OKAY

So I'm really wrestling with this one.

There's a guy who's offered £6,300 (I feel this is reasonable for the car but interested in peoples thoughts!) for the car who's looking to buy it and pay in full this Saturday, but I'm now really starting to wonder whether I should be selling given how much work I've put into the car and the fact that whilst the money would be nice all it'll do is sit in the bank.

Any other cars I want to replace the quattro with are MUCH more expensive!

God damn you quattro....

I need to give the guy an answer tonight. I suppose if I do keep but decide to sell later there'll still be people interested and who knows, with an MOT and some of the cosmetic stuff done I should be able to get a few pennies more?
