Default Modern day car designs...

....is it just me or have 90% of manufactures given up trying to design a car rather than copy just a generically boring shape. I know the current trend is sweeping curves with a few sharp edges thrown in for good measure and the A5's and Merc E classes do this better than most but 90% of the run of the mill car, are just totally and utterly uninspiring to look at.

It seems only Citroen will step outside the box a little and come up with something different. OK, some company's may come up with one quirky design, but this is usually killed by adding the works, green, eco and hybrid on the rear end and removing the petrol engine for some 12v batteries!!

Except for the Evoque of course. But then petrol heads generally loathe this car for being just that, aesthetically pleasing, a concept car that got built!

Personally think it looks great, don't care if peoples thoughts are "mums run car, pontzy car, blah blah blah!" For once it's a car that does what it set out to do very well evoke reaction, both positive and negative which is in itself a sign of a car that's gone through a design process and not just had "sculpted lines" added/taken away!

But in general you're right, everyones scared of going radical and those that do end up putting lines outside the box are the french, they can afford to do that thanks to a healthy national market where their cars are significantly discounted compared with other offerings!

Didn't BMW also try to be different with the 'dame edna' 5 series! Some companies are ahead of their time and others should stick with boring!

I don't get the Evoque but can see the appeal. It's a bit like the Nissan Juke, kind of confused as to what car it really should be!
I guess Range Rovers Evoque is no different to people like Porsche doing the Cayenne. Both companies have gone down the same route for some 30-40 years with their cars that as soon as they bring our a design which for them, is outside the box, everyone will have a strong reaction.

I dont get the evoque , the high door lines baffle me . Dont think much of the current audi designs , the new rs4 is very tepid , the a1 and a5 are all very reserved and safe

Most modern car designs are exactly that, 'safe'. They follow the current trend and driving behind one, you could so easily mistake it for so many other cars.

Maybe people need to take a leaf out of Morgans design studio and just stick to something some 50 years old!

Saw a Peugoet 208 in a stealers today when I went in to get arseraped £100 for a set of plastic pipes that probably cost 50p to make (but that's another story). Literally the most unoriginal car I've ever seen. I walked round it naming all the parts of other cars it'd ripped off, I mean citing the styling cues no doubt.

Bonnet: New VW Scirocco
Grill: A bit Audi, just a bit more understated.
Headlights: Citroen C3?
Up to the door tops: Alfa Mito
Windows/roofline: New Scirocco (again)
General stance from the side: Fiat 500
Arse: 207 with slightly more rake, which was a 206 with slightly more rake. Which in turn was a 205, printed on the back of a pair of pants and stretched onto a fat lass.

The Evoque is a Range Rover that looks like it has been on Pimp my Ride.
