Default Motor Insurers' Bureau

Morning,

Iam going to try and keep this as structured as possible;

- I insure my vehicle with my insurance company
- My insurer sends me a confirmation

- MIB send me a letter saying my vehicle is not insured?
- I return the letter to them, filling out the "you can check with my insurer section"
- My insurer ensures me there is nothing to worry about and that I am on their records

- MIB send me a letter via DVLA saying they have checked with my insurer i was not covered and I have to pay them a fine

- My insurer has told me the MIB have not checked with them and that Iam and was covered, they will send me a confirmation letter which I can forward.

Now my problem with all this is, that the MIB is putting pressure on motorists to do their job. They should contact the insurance company not me, I know iam insured. If they don't know this they should do a check, the Police do and so does the ANPR, so why is the MIB no on the same system.

Why do I have to take time to do this? I have already payed a premium for a service that is compulsory, Surely the MIB being such a big government company should have access to insurance databases. Why is the motorist being charged for their incompetence? What a fucking CON I am outraged!!!

If the MIB has got a lack of staff and infrastructure that is not my fault and I certainly do not want to get fined for it. This has really wound me up today, the DVLA woman told me we are working on their behalf we don't have nothing to do with the MIB.

HOW CAN MIB do what they do if they don't even have access to insurance records? It sounds like a hit and miss operation, "lets just hope people will pay" policy.

WHAT A JOKE!

Double check with your insurance company and check your certificate to see if they have recorded your reg number correctly.
This is a common admin fault
Also go onto the site "ask MID" and check your own reg number for free
This is the same database as MIB use

As above.

I got pulled over last year for no insurance.
Reg no. didn't come up on the database.

Turns out one letter was wrong on the insurance policy, I had a copy with me and it all got cleared up there and then.

I hadn't noticed, the woman in the post office who gave me tax disc the week before hadn't noticed and it took the copper a little while!

Explains why I couldn't get the tax disc on line though.

I was stopped on the M62 about 18 months ago, and was told my car was not showing as being insured, I was allowed to carry on and asked to produce my documents at a local police station. This I did and heard no more about it, but I never found out why the MOT and my details came up on the system and my insurance did not and my insurance company could not give me a resonable answer, needless to say i am no longer with them.

Cool

Had something very similar 2 weeks ago, telling me SWMBO's impreza had been seen, wasn't insured and I would get a FPN unless I had sold it or notified it off road.
Sooooo, I ring the MID
No option to speak to someone, so the facility to ring them is a waste of time.
Sooooo, I pen a letter to the head if MID, very politely giving them the name if my broker, the insurance company name that covers our cars, and the policy number.
Four (4) working days later rang me personally and apologised but was unable to explain what had happened.
Now, the WR1 isn't a low-profile car and I had passed scores of ANPR equipped cars in Darrrbeeeshur, with not even a flicker of a blue light coming after me intent on turning the Scooby into a 2tonne cube of metal.

The thick plottens, as my dear old mum says....

Had the same from my A6 last year.

Sent them a copy of my policy and had a bit of a rant as well, and also sent them a list of vehicles and trade plates we have assigned to us on the MID database and got a nice letter back saying thanks for supplying us with further evidence and we will look in to it and let you know....

.....3 months later, NADA..
No further letter to tell me that I don't have to pay the £80 or £100 fine which they said I would have to wen they sent the 2nd letter.

Typical government run fook up.

Yet another example of a body that's 'not fit for purpose' IMHO.

Similar problem on the S4.it was down to the insurance company submitting, or whatever they do, whatever records they submit, which in turn are entered onto whatever computer (cue little britainesque monotone).

Some companies apparently update weekly, some daily, and I rather suspect, some randomly.

yep, that's more the case it seems!

My sarcy letter also included a copy of my renewal premium which is just short of £50k and a nice little reply stating that given how much I pay for insurance in the first place, I'm hardly about to try and avoid paying insurance and maybe resources could be better spent elsewhere.

dicks.

Oh yes, the MID and the DVLA never have two such incompetent half witted organisations combined to create such a mess. I also have a letter advising that my car was uninsured, unless I coughed up a fine immediately it would be doubled and if that didn't work they would take me to court. I'm still waiting for the summons (since last August). Fortunately my trade policy has a line at the top of it which says as clause a) any motor vehicle the property of, or in the possession of the policy holder. I think that that covers it and means that I win irrespective of whether the DVLA can find it on the MID.

Please, please, please send a summons soon
