I saw a drain cover fly past my window earlier. That explains it.

When i was a kid we use to drop "bangers" down the drain, luckily it was a drain and not a man-hole cover, I suppose it would be more PC to say a person-hole (better not call it a woman-hole)

Back when I was a lad you could still get "flash powder" from the Co-op chemists in Derby. The stuff they used to use in the early 1900s for flash photography?

It was basically aluminium powder and potassium permanganate. We used to add some lead styphnate to make it go a bit. We rolled the cases out of cartridge paper around a pencil and glued them with Bostick One - which we also mixed with potassium permanganate to make the fuses.
