Default cq exaust manifold advice

i need to get the gasket on the exaust manifold replaced on my 86 cq. i brought it to my mechanic after getting him all the gaskets, but when he took a closer look 4 of the 5 of them had already been replaced, just leaving the last and hardest apperantly to be done, a job which my man dosent want to take on as it looks like the engine has to come out!!! is there a simple way to get the job done? any help would be much appreciated as the 5 pot just sounds like a tractor at the moment

engine doesn't have to be pulled, you just have to be lucky that the studs don't break

it's also quite possible that the gasket has failed because the stud has failed. They can either unwind and fall out, or break. If broken, you are looking at taking the head off or the engine out. Which might actually be the easier option.......

All I can say is I fully sympathise mate.

My 200 sounds embarrasingly clattery and noisy.Ruins the experience eh??

Bens taking the head off soon,as someones already been there and made a right pigs ear of mine too.

Its bite the bullet time,or pass it on.

This,Im learning,is one of those situations where theres no easy fix.

engine out as a better option? When you are that far (inlet anf exhaust manifold out) taking the head off is really easy.

im hopeing its just a case that the gasket needs replacing!! if so is it possible to do by just taking off the injection systom and a few other bits for room?

The inlet manifold is simple to remove, a bit time comsuming but easy. But it has to come off to get at the manifold. Just remember to take a few camera pics to aid putting it back together. The inlet manifold is held on with Allen key bolts. Once off it's just a matter of getting the down pipe undone, which can be a bitch and then undoing all the copper nuts holding the manifold onto the studs. they WILL be mostly knackered but can come out with persuasion. Be carefull and they may come out in tact. But you will need new ones when putting it back together, you can be sure of that!
