Odometer fix....please!
Hi.
This is becoming a habit. Bought my 1993 Audi 80 2.6E just over a week ago now, and I seem to have been pestering you lot on here for help ever since! Newest problem so far. Odometer stopped working yesterday. Odometer and trip. Speedometer is working fine. So I've done a Google, and it would appear that this isn't uncommon, and is down to a broken tooth, or worn teeth, on the plastic gears. My question is, has anyone successfully repaired this fault, or even heard of it being done, by replacing the gear(s) from this guy in Deutschland (partworks.de) who sells them on our beloved ebay. Can I put the link up on here? Not sure if that's allowed in forum rules. Here's a photo though. Comes with instructions (although how good they are is another matter!), but at over £40, it's not something I want to buy unless it does the business. |

Sorry folks, I seem to have jumped the gun a tad here.
Having looked through the 'Interior' section here, I've found a couple of posts about this issue. I'm assuming it might be prudent to begin by removing the binacle as a starting point, but I think that may need to wait a few weeks due to time constraints and needing the car for a long weekend in the Scottish Highlands (photos to come!) in the middle of August. Car is also going in to have timing belt done next Wednesday. Is it pretty much guaranteed to be the parts in the photo at fault, or could it be something else? Would still like to know your thoughts about the odometer though if anyone can share I aways have a little trepidation about diving into a job that I've never tackled before. Your reassurance would be much appreciated! |

If you go to web site of this seller it has full instructions on how to repair only hard part is carefully pulling off speedometer indicator needle.
Did mine on my V8 a few months ago but I had to take the dash apart to find what number tooth cog I had in mine https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/custom3dprintedparts |

Mikes2 posted about the broken tooth in his thread in the "Readers Rides" section last week. He is brilliant at describing the method with super photos of the process.

A few on here have done this including me, it's not as hard as we think when when we finaly get stuck in, doesn't take long either. The gauge needles should come off without any problem, i have done two sets with no trouble.
You can do it |

Funny how, you can remove cylinder heads, grind in valve seats by hand on the kitchen table, replace radiators, water pumps etc...but then some silly little job comes along that just seem too complicated! Many thanks for the help and encouragement. |
