that would actually be kinda cool as long as the passenger door was on the nearside. A very forward thinking child friendly car where rear seat passengers could only exit away from the road!!

The more I look into Ford/Mercury's Special Vehicle Operations cars of the 80's, the more I regret not owning one for the prices when they were new.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda as they say.

In the US, the Capri came under the aegis of Ford’s subsidiary company Mercury.
The Mustang, had been re-invigorated in the early 80’s with a new convertible, a 5.0 litre V8 motor and the rectalinear stytling that defined the cars of the early 80’s
The Mustang SVO was a bastard 4cyl. Turbo that surprised a lot of people that drove them. The 85.5 model had 205bhp, and came loaded with 4 wheeel discs, adjustable Konis, sway bars, a premium sound system, leather sport seats, and AC.

At around $20,000 USD this was the United States version of a “Capri”.

The ASC McLaren Capris, was Mercury’s version of the Mustang. A rare and sexy beast, with flared fenders, sport package, gobs of power, and a firm backside.
These are almost impossible to get now. Well worth it for $22K at the time.

That is a later Ford Mustang 5.0 convertible.
Maybe 1987-88. Same V8 powerplant.

As stated before, the Mitsubishi Starion Turbo was also pretty sweet in 1985
