Yeah that 1st time i pressed the fix button i wasnt sure how long to press it for and i made the car accelerate slightly, that was the sensation and why the pedal felt funny. The english translation from the original german in the 90s handbook is not great and as such the cruise control section is a bit vague so using the system for thd first time iwas all a big experiment really

Love your 90 sport. Great option list there. Mine never had that stuff being just a 20V fwd but it did have a Mint Blaupunkt Canberra still in it when i bought it and it had what i can only guess a dealer installed Vag remote locking alarm? Nice bit of kit i thought and something i wish i had on the 2.6 Avant.

Without climate control from B4/B5/C4 that temp display is rather useless, although nice looking gadget, unless temp sensor is installed somewhere in the rear of the car, out of the engine heat. After having it without climate control I was surprised about ambient temperature calculating abilities of climate control

Its a gimmick i'll admit but I'm going to defend it anyway msh There are lots of cars without climate control that tell you the outside temp, even my poverty spec Peugeot 207 (missus' shopping trolley). It also serves as an ice warning which i find useful as our house is quite sheltered and often our cars are not icy when everyone elses are in winter time. Also over here we have the uniquely British institution of making the weather a constant topic of conversation, not knowing how hot or cold your car thinks it is leaves you at a distinct disadvantage

Truthfully Ive no interest in fitting aircon or climate, its a step too far you forever at the mercy of leaking pipes etc and is waaaaay too much work for a car i need on the road for work! Anyway whenever is it warm enough over here

My experience of the sensor is that it is largely accurate? sometimes there is a small variation when you turn the car off and on again straight away, but you are defeating the trickery of its air cooling compensation in that case

J73 GNH had the outside temp display factory fitted but had the normal manual air con. My old red 90, H134 ENH was the same. Quite rare to see a 90 fitted with it.

These lots of cars likely has sensor installed somewhere where it doesn't have to measure warm air coming from engine [I've heard that opels have it in rear wheel well] or some circuitry that makes actual temperature calculation. You've probably managed to put that sender some better place than it originally was, in my experience heat soak usually made outside temp display to show at least 10 more degrees after 5-10 minutes leaving car parked somewhere with engine warm, so there were only two situations when I could trust it - with engine cold or when I've driven enough that temperature has stopped to drop.

As for leaky pipes etc - climate control is a device that adjusts air flow, not cools it, and it works without A/C. A/C itself also doesn't leave anyone "in mercy of leaky pipes" - that's the inexperienced and careless mechanic who does. Of course, you've got reasons why not to fit climate control and if your outside temp display works good enough for you, that's fine I understood that I need climate control long time ago, when I was driving in rainy day with cold feet - unlike manual controls, climate control with electric motors is able to direct air to windscreen and feet simultaneously

I take the point about the a/c needing good maintenance like anything else and done well i admit its nice to have. Likewise the climate control, the standard manual control on the b3 is limited having only 3 real settings or halfway between each as a compromise...! I wrote it off as a mod i could do based on several reasons, the least of which is that any starting point for installing a KV compatible a/c system would be at least 25+ years old and unlikely to be functional without spending a few quid...! And as much as i like doing projects and the feeling of conquering a problem, i think fitting an electronic climate system into a RHD car may be beyond me...! But that isnt to say its not possible or even desirable, if you have fitted it successfully, well done! Its just not something i think i will ever do

To be honest all I wanted this thread to do was explore the cruise control mod, not debate the merits of the minutiae of the B3 / B4 options list... On that score everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and is probably why the majority of 80s and 90s had very few options fitted at all!!!
