Now that I've finished the Burner, I'm thinking of getting another frame to do up.

There's some sort of activity/club between Rotherham and Meadowhall - it's not unusual to get five or six lads on these things boarding the trains between the two. There were three on the train an hour ago, and very, very tidy they looked too - not a scratch between them.

No brakes, though, and no sign of any preparation for such.

I decided to fit a retro frame pad set to it today. Not origional but easier to find than a Raleigh pad set.

What a great thred!!!

I was into BMX racing hugely, my first BMX like most people was a Raleigh, 'Night burner', then I had a Mongoose california, then the Mongoose Pro Class (my favourite) and then ended up with a very rare Falcon Pro team flyer which I still have. My proclass got trashed, I was a reckless racer at the time, that bike cost me £399 way back in 1986!!!

The best looking bike was the Diamond back 'Harry Leary turbo' and the Hutch Pro star was a stunning bike too.

I used to think Andy Ruffell was a god haha and his rivalry with Tim March was great especially on the kellogs series.

Andy Ruffell is now a millionaire record producer and his old races can be seen on you tube. However Andy used to get blown away by the Yanks and one guy stood out, Tommy 'the human dragster' Brackens!!Lol Think he used to ride for GT. As for the previous post regarding wanting a Kuwarahara nova, not been able to afford it ,was a blessing mate, Tim March said it was the worst bike he had ever ridden and thats why he set up MRD racing.

My claim to fame was racing Jamie Staff, the gold medal Olympic track cycling star and a former world BMX champion. He just blew me away within 5 metres and I was a good25 secs behind him at the finish, at just 14 years old he has huge legs then a amazing power in them.

There are so many sites with old school BMX photos, some bikes are just mint, all original too.

Regards

Darron,

Great to see a BMX post here. They've been few and far between.

Hey you and as many friends as you can bring are welcome to join us for the Nationals at Cheddar.

I'm going from Stamford area,if you'd like to go get Rad and sample some nostalgia.

Gonna be riding after a fair bit of practice lately, down at Farnham in Surrey shortly.
Was 6th in the UK back in 1984

Hoping to get back up the rankings asap.Surprising just how many old muckers never stopped racing or are getting back into it again.

For those of you wishing to restore old valuable bikes, the key is very much to not clean off the patina, just the mud.Removing the patina, like with antiques, strips the value.
Lots of info on www.bmxtalk.co.uk

Steve

Thanks for the invitation Steve, I see that you are from Rutland. I bought the Burner from Rutland cycles, do you know the place?

Mine won't have a laid back seat stem, I think that was put on by the lad who owns that bike.

Default .Yeah

Yeah I know the place, learned of it recently mate.

If only I'd kept my Maximum XL frame and forks.Worth stuuuupid money now.Been hard pressed to find one up to the same spec weight and size wise.
Went for a GT in the end, with some retro Landing Gear forks! hahaaaaaa!

Can still bunny hop milk crates on their ends, pull 360s and do 200 plus backhops!!
Kills me now mind, but can still do it!
Always was a real show offs' art BMXing!
