Thanks all I got it sorted in the end, believe that damp or poor contact in the interior lamp switch wasn't sending a 12v signal where required reliably. Been working perfectly for several month now

I've got this problem now, 1994 1.6 B4, single small beep from the boot when you lock the car, fully charged battery, engine earth straps are fine, new starter all connected properly and I got nothing!!! Won't crank. Worked fine before I took the battery out to charge it and pulling fuse 19 does booger all.
Any suggestions where to start? I have a multimeter!! |

Hi Not sure how relevant this is. I had a similar problem with my coupe. When I opened the drivers door the central locking failed to work put the key in the ignition and the car would not crank and the alarm started to sound locked it back up left it half an hour. Opened the car central lock now worked, car cranked and started fine!
I have not had the issue since! So may be a link to the central locking? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll go have a look! I presume the battery is good, it took a charge no bother, and is a bosch part, doesn't look very old. May do some more tests on that, will try it on another car tomorrow.
When you lock it the central locking works fine, even the petrol cap, small beep from a horn in the boot and seven flashes on the fog light tell tale lamp, and it's got audi alarm stickers on all the windows so I presume it's factory but maybe not. Everything else on first ignition works fine, fuel pump runs, 13v on the volt meter in the centre console, headlights and full beam look as bright as they should be but it definitely seems like an imobiliser problem. Will go get my torch out. Relay. |

Dont know if this makes any sense but never had a basic B4 before -
First ignition you get, battery light on solid, oil level warning light solid, water temp warning light flashing and what looks like the bomb (!) flashing, abs light comes on solid and goes off after two seconds Try to crank it and all of them go off apart from the oil level warning light which stays on solid. Maybe bought a gremlin hotel! |

I just tried it with jump leads running to a running iveco daily with about a 5 million Ah battery and still nothing, so it's not a battery grunt problem.
