does the price to build anything matter? would anyone go into audi and say i recon "this R8 only cost you £20k to build so im not sure you should be selling it for £120k" if you have the money you takes your choice. personally i think its well worth alot more, how much did the last one anyone see forsale go for?

Its worth whatever somebody is willing to pay for it simple as that. Only time will tell on that front.

Hhmmnn
Sorry to be the perennial 'spoiler' but I'd refer to a previous thread I started concerning a 206 T16 and RS200 that are for sale.
Now Silverstone Auctions are going to selling a 1066 mile time warp RS200 at the NEC next month, guide price £80-100k.
My money would go on that, and again I'd question the 'value' of a genuine swb against that sort of price.
I love the swb, but if I had the money I know where I'd be putting it, and the lucky car wouldn't have 4 rings on the front.

That's partially my point (and no disrespect to this swb build) but it is and only ever will be a copy of the real thing.
I'd suggest its probably an excellent vehicle with high levels of craftsmanship that would cost more to build than the price asked.
I also appreciate am homologised road car is not the same ad a rally-ready car.
But, it still begs the value question of what are broadly similar cars in the T16, RS200 and 6R4 etc, and why a genuine swb is 'worth' more (I retesting that my source in the trade suggests that none of them make what the traders ask / speculate...)

This would be in my dream garage if I had the ££££.

Yes it would be nice to have the real thing, but if you are actally going to to use the car (rallys, hillclimbs, etc) its important to know the chassis is straight and the parts fitted are avalible easily.

This is a car to be driven, a genuine S1 is a icon and MAYBE should be left for shows and the odd historic meet, unless you have the backing of Audi to keep the squished-up munchkin runing ??

a dream garage is all well and good, but parting with 100k is no joke

Might I humbly suggest there is a lot of 'beyond the rep' engineering in this car... it is a faithful recreation of an S1 with all of the Matter body webbing and modifications, rather than a shortened Ur/cq with a cage... Yes, it is a recreation, however it has a lot of bodywork finesse buried below the outer bodywork that makes it a very special car... Even if you're nifty with a mig....

Well put Simmo , it is what it is and has its own bit of tangible provenance and has mixed with the big boys .... Not minced round the block or spent most of its life in a garage in a rural semi .... Its a very good car whose structural integrity is proven too
