you know, if nothing else, this thread is an interesting investigation into what happens to those cars you see in magazines/at shows after they've served their purpose!!!

Yes OK, but I've never seen a 80 in black ( and I was around and driving at the time !!)
What I should have said was one of the more usual pastel shades that were around at teh time.....
But it's still great and it will probably mean that I buy the magazine when it arrives at WHSmith !!

Car restoration and customization is a monetary black hole that unless you've done what Trev has, or Coxy with RALF or even Hamish with the SWB ( dozens more unamed and under appreciated ) then you cannot possibly judge or understand the cost and heart ache.

How many hours, and how many dollars/euros/pounds/firstborn children and or blood diamonds do you think goes into a car like this? Granted, Trev might have been fortunate enough to pay a bucket load of additional money for a more solid example before beginning the work, but he'd still have to find one. I think that it's great that the car, although she appears highly customized, can be brought very easily back to a period state with bolt on parts.

You couldn't pay me so little to do so much, with such a cool car.

I understand that most vintage cars are highly personal, with regards to taste. Sure every Audi freak wants a Sport Quattro, but only a few want a liquid black 70's 4 door saloon.

If it wasn't about implied value, I'd take the 80.

Zermatt, I have been very very lucky and have ridden in and driven a Sport Quattro ( about 40 miles plus about a dozen driving).
They are very different ( !! ) but I've got to say I'd prefer to own Trev's 80 -- so not every Audi freak wants the Sport Quattro !!

LOL your right. I have seen so many people break cars trying to reclaim what they can from their so called "show cars" All these modern mk6 golfs, polos etc, not even 4-5 years old, people end up spending well over 10k getting it to show winning standards, then when they can't sell it they have to start breaking them.

I remember the good old Max Power days, and then coming across an ex-feature car in the classified section

excellent & the most beautiful series 1 80 i have seen, good luck with the sale.

price cut to EUR12k which, with the favourable Sterling rate these days makes it a nice bit cheaper to UK buyers at STG£9,600

more photos are now on the freshfix.net blog

PM me if you're interested

You'll find a buyer who can appreciate the extent that you've gone to, Trev. Be patient.
