Haven't added to this for a while, but thought this was worth a mention
.The weekend after Audi Driver International, we returned to Castle Combe for our last event of the year, the Pegasus sprint. The weather was, to put it politely, rubbish. Rain followed by more rain, the track was completely water logged. Making all our dry weather practice at ADI redundant! It was more a case of hoping to make it through the day unscathed than being competitive! ![]() The tentative practice sessions were comprised of early gentle braking off the normal line where there is generally a little more grip in the wet and wheel spinning with quick correction on the way out. Here's one of our competitors demonstrating the lack off grip (with 2 wheel drive) in the challenging conditions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4JmsL3W-RQ A quick look at the times during lunch, just out of interest, showed me not only leading the class, but second quickest overall. ![]() ![]() So torn between looking after the car and the red mist, I finished the day with the fastest time overall. At speed events such as hillclimbs and sprints, prizes are awarded for each of the classes. But there is also an extra trophy for the driver who achieves fastest time of day (FTD). ![]() ![]() There were faster cars there in other classes, but they couldn't cope with the conditions like the quattro could .We often take reasonable positions within the class and sometimes get class wins, but it has never crossed my mind that I would be in a position to take FTD. Hence I was unprepared for the customary speech made by the winner of fastest time at prize giving! So another win for Audi and a good way to finish the season
