You have posed a difficult one here.
As already said, with your fabrication skills someone like you is definitely needed to sort out the many NLA listed parts or alternatively have the know how to replace with similar from other vehicles. Your knowledge base would go a long way.
The question is how many people would be prepared to pay for fabrication?
If you don't get the custom, you can't pay your bills. If you widen your customer base, you will not have the time to do the fabrication work.
Another member on here recently started a car meet in Silverstone. Slight lack of Audi member support led him to open up the meeting to any car over 20 years old. Perhaps that is a thought?
Not much in the way of helping with your quandary I know. But I for one, would sure be glad to know there is a specialist should i need one.

I suspect you will enjoy your work if you start down this path, so I say give it a go.

Most people don't get the chance to work at what they enjoy. People who do tend to prosper.

I also suspect you have the necessary skills to bounce back should things not work out.

I suggest you don't limit yourself to the B2. Why not cater for all Audis of that era too, ie the C3?

Over time I believe you could end up offering services for these older Audis not offered anywhere else in the country.

I agree with this big time and think you should give it a go, i also think there is a huge gap for somebody to specialise in older Audi models too, people like you are few and far between i reckon !

You'll get nothing finished of your own if you start a business.. (unless you pay someone else to do it!) Do it all before you start!

The ideal business for me is making or refurbing something, then selling it. Customer doesn't want it, don't contact me. Then it's all clear cut. Service industries are a pain in the ar*s for getting sidetracked into things that pay the bills, then it's easy to lose the will to live, even if what you're doing isn't that bad.

I don't want to be a doomsayers, but while your interest may lay in the B2s and a little sideline stuff, I'm pretty sure you'll need a broader range to get a wider customer base, satisfy expected income.

That said-

With your fabricating knowledge, attention to detail, and overall ethic, you'd likely attract work from folks like me with limited time/space to tackle big jobs. I spend a lot of time out of the country, so time is precious.

Fixed price service package, for jobs you know well? Like cambelt changes.

I totally agree with the above, the wider you can throw your net the better, with out going crazy. And if you can put together a fixed price offer for servicing brakes cam belts etc! Then that will differentiate you from the others out there! If you can get some one to put together a little web site that would also help from a marketing point of view! I also value my time and would happily pay for a job well done!

I would really appreciate a specialist in my Audi that was interested as well as able to work on it (a C2 Type 43).

If such a specialist had cover for the car while it was in their care (i.e., it was undercover) and wanted the business that would be great.

However, from your perspective, I must admit that the size of the customer base might be an issue. I really hope there are enough B2s etcetera about to sustain a business, but I have no idea if that is so.
