Good luck, you can do it.
Support groups seem to work quite well.
When my old man wanted to give up after over 40 years, the practice nurse arranged one for him to join. That isn't his style and he told her so in no uncertain terms (quite a charmer yy dad!)
She told him there was no way he'd stay off the fags if he didn't join.
That was the encouragement he needed and for the last 4 years every time he goes into the doctors surgery he delights in telling her he's still off the weed without her or anyones help but his own.
As I said, these support groups are pretty succesful, one way or another

[quote=catgroom;21779]I mention that, not for an ego boost,as nicotine is still the most addictive substance known to man.

Hmmm more difficult to come off fags than it is heroin

I packed in 14mnths ago after smoking for 45yrs !! Using Champix tablets from the quack, they take away the craving and you can have them for 3mnths. I needed them for 4weeks after then it's down to willpower, as sometimes I could easily pick one up !!
That only lasts for a few seconds then it's OK.
Good luck anyway, you'll do it if you really want to.

right now I am starting to get slightly agitated. 4 hours for 5 minutes on my life and a measly 50 pence when I could have had a smoke

Seriously thanks for some great stories, shared experiences and words of support.

Now what can I get for 50 pence????.........

The bad news is that you never completely loose the urge, but the good news is at least you'll be around to resist

Big Milestone reached yesterday

100 Cigarettes not smoked and 10 days quit

Thanks to everyone for their support, abuse and torment I will not be broken in my resolve.

That doesn't mean the cravings have totally gone away. Strangely the craving is not for the nicotine but more to do with the time of day when my head says time for a smoke. However I keep telling myself I have just given myself a £1000 a year tax free pay rise. It usually does the trick.

Oh and I've put 5lb on in weight. Turning into Tubby Johnson - is he fat?, you bet your hat

It is mindset Coxy. Have stopped before and always thought in the back of my mind that I would go back. So it was very much half hearted and sure as eggs is eggs......

This time my mindset is much more focussed. In short I want it more, I want to prove to myself I can do it and because of that the whole experience of stopping is much more enjoyable. It really is in the mind.

Keep it up mate, the first 10 years are the worse

I had to stop for health reasons, I was on 60 a day when we stopped, the only real down side is that I was a Very Very skinney 12 stone and now I am just under 17 stone
which me now just as out of breath as I was when I smoked
