Another vote for the Loctite kit, costs about a fiver, and works. I have done it to a couple of cars now, after a disastrous attempt wit the double sided foam ones.

Halfords stock them, or ebay etc.

Not sure if I really need the rear view mirror if I have both side mirrors here in Denmark... Mine has come of a couple of times... I think I'll just glue it on for mot and then leave it in the glove compartment for the next two years..
