Hey troops
Thought I’d open a thread where people can suggest what they’d like to see on here and share ideas that they think would improve footfall and quality on the forum 1. Get it secure and stable 2. Photo hosting? 3. Sections for (slightly) newer Audis Anybody on Facebook and able to share that the forum is back up again on Classic Audi there? |

Hi Derek, reply below, sorry in advance, got a bit carried away.
1. Get it secure and stable------------------------------Yes, This is a must 2. Photo hosting? ----------------------------------------Yes, This would be good but limited to 400Kb per photo or so, we may need to pay an annual membership for this 3. Sections for (slightly) newer Audis------------------No, The name of the forum is Classic Audi, not what PCP do you have or how many cup holder do you have, I need a forum of good old guys that can help with good old car problems and also tell you the best way to get the grime out from below your finger nails or how stick a plaster to your bald bit when it is gushing with blood because you thought the car was higher on the two post lift. |

I hear where you’re coming from Colin, I’m thinking about the early A series, the A4/A6/A8 for example?
By the nature of the beast, the surviving pool of cars and members gets smaller as time goes by and the Audis slightly newer than ours fall in to classic status in their own right |

All on the same theme really, but if i am to post on the site I would want:
Get rid of all the "guest" visitors who are not real. Currently 2,500 surfing the site. Don't let sign-ups in from clearly scam "people". Perhaps use some kind of Turing test. Prune away all the obvious non-users. All the weird names: "aaalxkjjjshhdur" has joined the chat...

As above...Easy picture uploading would be good, anyone tried the Tappatalk app thingy recently?
And yes the surfing guests need to be filtered out. Quote:

So first time on here since 11th December 2024 according to my log in stats, I'm hoping it stays up now so my thoughts the cars are getting older, we are getting older but surely anything over 25 years now qualifies as classic perhaps even 20 years so yes the earlier A series cars and series 1 TT's are definitely classic in my view.
If the forum is not opened up to the newer stuff say up to 2006 then it will eventually just fade out as the cars are disappearing fast as are the folks that own em. My other interests are 70's and 80's bikes and its already becoming clear that the pool of folks into them is declining fast as their values are falling fast as the group of enthusiast owners shrinks. |

I’m mostly in the school of thought that 25years and older is a good point. Or maybe 20th century models. The argument about increasing membership is valid.
The photo hosting that I have in mind will come along as soon as the fundamentals of the forum are stabilised. The new domain hosting service does, as I understand it, facilitate the ’secure’ status. Some tweaks and corrections in the last 24hours should help with stability, pending a proper tech overhaul to update the software. Sections for other cars- I am much in agreement, but new sections and fundamental changes won’t happen until stability is achieved. Basically, the current directory structure will remain as is for the next few weeks. I’d like to see all of the guests gone as well. It’s outside my knowledge, but from those who do know, it’s mostly the likes of Google, et al, indexing the site. Which will be quicker the longer it stays online. Photo hosting- TBA, but i’m hoping it will be something similar to another forum that I am on. I’ll pass on more detail as soon as I can.
