Clutch Slave Rod Material
Anyone know why the rods sometimes use a plastic cap, and sometimes don't?
Is the "cup" in the Sachs slave made of metal? I'm going to have three shorter rods machined up and test them each for best fit, but would like confirmation that it is ok to use pure metal rods. TIA!

Three questions:
1-Has anyone used, in any car, a slave rod with metal at both ends? S2 forum says yes. 2-Is the clutch release lever lined with plastic, or is it just metal? 3-Is the cup in any slave cylinder lined with plastic?

I've installed clutch slave rods that are just mild steel with a ball shap end and not experianced any problems.

Thanks. I've bought 3 different lengths made of stainless steel to try. (I found an ebayer offering Lathe services)

No prolem, happy to try and help...
And to answer you other question, the cup in the release arm is not lined, it's simply a roughly 3/8"'s deep recess that's part of the arm pressing. So mental on metal contact is not a problem.
