Engine Temp Dial
I just wanted to run this passed a more knowledgeable crowd because I'm a little stumped.
I was always under the impression that engine temperature should be about 90 degrees. My Audi 80's temperature gauge always goes in between the 2 dots and stays there. According to the gauge this would be overheating. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-80-C...AAAOSwbTVeFjcy |

Right...now I’ve had this issue and have learnt the hard way (by checking every single part of the system!). Obviously check the cooling system is working correctly BUT the chances are you'll find the sender is giving an inaccurate reading. Meyle seem to be one of the worst for this. The best thing is to try and source an original (almost impossible) or try different makes until you get one that gives the correct reading.
I’ve spoken to a lot of forum members about this and have reached the same conclusion. |

Does the fan kick in and out correctly? Assuming the water pump and thermostat have been changed at the correct interval?

As indicated it may be the sender. What engine is it as there are different senders .

So the cut along story short. The temperature gauge would always go super high almost as soon as I turned the ignition and got off the drive it would be at 120. I couldn't figure out why.
*coolant change *coolant flush *Flush coolant tank *coolant thermo switch *thermostat *water coolant temperature sensor The temperature sensor made the biggest change because rather than the temperature shooting up, it would take much longer for the car to warm up and get to temperature. But rather than the temperature stopping at 90 its going all the way to between the 2 dots and staying there. I have noticed that the fans don't seem to be kicking in though. Can't think why??? |
