Oh sorry-I thought you were thinking of buying it, but you are the ebay seller!
Good luck with sale-we'd be interested to know what the insurance company sold it to you for in the end-personally I don't mind at all if you are trying to make a profit-that's the point of ebay after all!

Indeed they have, however many of the offers of critical parts above were good will gestures to Mark, a long standing and well liked Quattro enthusiast and these would not necessarily apply to anyone else.

This adds insult to injury here I'm afraid imho. I don't know Mark personally but the story of his cars demise was heart wrenching, he has my every sympathy - I doubt very much helping someone profit from his misfortune will be at the top of his 'to do' list...

Ditto!

Sod off would be the words going through my mind.

If you were here with a view to restoring it, fair enough, but purely to enhance your profit then not so cool IMHO.

Quite. I'm amazed and impressed by the sympathy and generosity shown to Mark (who I don't know at all by the way).

I agree with you guys.

Most of us on here (I would imagine) don't genuinely know each other, but that doesn't stand in the way of generosity, sympathy or encouragement/support towards those genuine enthusiasts that I, and I assume others, feel a kinship with.

I would have liked nothing more than to see Mark restore his car if it had been feasible, which for already stated reasons, was not to be the case. The kinship for me stops there, it's now just a commodity.

I know nothing about metallurgy. What does this mean? Is the strength of the metal compromised by having been heated to the extent suggested? (Just genuinely curious )

It distorts and changes shape with the heat. It then hardens as it cools to the new shape

Basically *IF* all the heat damaged metal panels could be replaced itd be possible to rebuild it, but I kinda doubt that most of them are available new, I know the costs would be extortionate, for example a rear quarter costs upwards of 3k...just not viable so really parts car only now unfortunately.
