Given that B3's and B4's are well known for the failure of the Heater Matrix, why woauld you want to replace it with one from the same manufacturer - or have they improved it since?..............or is there nothing better?

In fairness it took 22 years to fail. And my mechanic assures me that anything other than OE will be even worse!

I can only hope mine will last that long - although it is a B4! (Cab.)

In all fairness to the original Audi B3/B4 heater matrix, could it not be attributed to them failing down to owners who bought them and didn't change the antifreeze regularly as your supposed to once they became older cars and of the appropriate service regime?? Would be interesting to see if John can throw light on how often his was changed?

You could be on to something there Mark, a lot of garages only top up rather than change completely, and a lot of people just stick water in to top up, even these days

Thats my thoughts on it Bruce.Imagine when these cars were 8 years old they tended to get bought by very young hands who's last thoughts were antifreeze change, preferring instead to spend on making it go faster and personalisation.
