Default Audi coupe, 2.6 V6 non runner, help req.

Hi all,

I've been faffing around with my K reg 2.6 V6 coupe for a while now, trying to fix it's non running problem.

Originally, it didn't have a spark at all but after cleaning up a corroded earth on the engine block I seem to be getting a weak looking spark. I think I'm getting fuel as I can smell petrol after turning it over but I need to get a node thing to check the pulses to each injector to confirm.

When I'm cranking the engine over I occasionally get the odd pop like the engine has fired once, but that's it.

I think if I had a nice healthy spark then I could have a runner. Any ideas on what could cause a weak spark?

Ta!

If you're getting the odd "pop" then perhaps the engine's flooded with fuel?........take the plugs out and see if they're wet......if so, clean and dry them. If plugs are wet then no need for a noid light!
HT spark could be week due to tracking to earth via grime/dirt at coil-pack, cleaning crap from coil and HT leads may help?

Hi

Also check rear hall pick up on the cylinder head on passenger side.....has a wide 3 pin plug and two 6 mm bolts holding it on......

check to see if its contaminated with oil or wires insulatiion is cracked and its earthing out or shorting...

i had a problem on my Audi 80 quattro Avant.......cleaned mine out and replaced seal.....no more issues

Your power pack ( browm two pin unit) on the bulkhead could be faulty too
And i agree with Johns post too

Good luck with car

cheers
john

ps......yours must an early 2.6....as i thought they where 2.8 v6....( ni proberly wrong lol)

Cheers for the replies, I don't get that much time to tinker with this motor because of Kids/work and other things that stop me from basically living a normal life so the updates may be a little slow.

At one point I deffo wasn't getting any fuel, I took the plugs out and they were dry and there was no petrol smell after cranking the engine over, however the last couple of cranking sessions have resulted in petrol fumes from the exhaust but I'll take a plug out to make sure (I think this coincided with cleaning up the earth point in the back of the cyl head). Maybe if the ECU doesn't detect a spark it cuts the fuel?

All googling and this thread points to checking/replacing the sensor on the rear of the N/S cylinder head so that looks like the next logical step along with cleaning up the coil packs and ensuring the earth is absolutely 100%

Thanks for the input!
