Can appreciate that, have friends from bordering countries and there are some stories to hear! Hard to fix if it's that deeply ingrained in the 'everyday'.

But Putin and Crimea, any different to a coup in a comonweath country like Australia, instigated in order for the counrty to be realigned politically with, say, China. And us stepping in, and saying, 'not on our (former) turf' ?

I disagree, Putin just wipes out anyone who stands in his way....totally ruthless. He and Medvedev have between them now been in power for a decade, and when Medvedev is in the hot seat, Putin is still pulling all the strings....

Wrong.First world war was not started by the germans at all. The immediate origins of the war, lay in the decisions taken by statesmen and generals during the July Crisis of 1914 caused by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie by Gavrilo Princip, an ethnic Serb and Yugoslav nationalist from the group Young Bosnia, which was supported by the Black Hand, a nationalist organization in Serbia.[1]

After this treaties kicked in resulting in WW1. Once world war 1 had concluded the Axis powers carved up the European map literally on the back of an envelope on the floor as they huddled round on their knees and they later admitted it was wrong to do so.The result was German land was stolen along with crippling Sanctions that went on to contributing a loaf of bread in Germany costing 1 Million Duetchmarks. The catastophic economic mess left a dangerous vacuum that was eventually filled by Hitler which we all know was the worst thing to have ever happened. I am afraid the UK with all it's colonies around the world which were taken as they raped and pillaged in the pursuit of wealth made the uk the strongest and wealthiest nation on earth (Roman Empire springs to mind) and along with the US we have a lot to answer for.The current conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians you might think was caused by those 2 sides. Wrong caused by Britain how they carved up territories after the second world war.

Although the Germans and the French had been squaring off for a fight since the latter part of the 19th century. So in many ways, the Balkan events were just a catalyst. Many of the animosities that existed pre WW1, which were subdued post WW2, bubbling up 30 odd years later.

Aye, that might well have been the case, but the squaring of between the French and Germans ended up eventually via the catalyst to trigger treaties which brought the UK into conflict with Germany for no other reason than signed piece of paper a promise no different than if Johnny in the play ground gets hit by Robby then Michael jumps in on Johnny side even though he has no beef with Robby. It's all rather pathetic. When you consider what the UK did to help France during WW2 you would think the French would like us English. They don't.I have been to France on a couple occaisons and you try and ask a french man when your in trouble and need directions. The French man will shrug his shoulders and walks of.Basically ignorant behavior when they know full well what was asked of them.Go to Germany and i have been a few times and they cannot be more helpful.Always found them very agreable and always willing to please.

In fact they are so close to us Brits that they might as well be us in many many ways. They are Saxons after all and so are we. My mother was visiting a German friend over Christmas in Bavaria well to be more precise between Bad Griesback and Pocking near the Austrian Border. My mother fell over a first floor balconny and cracked her head open onto a marble floor below and ended up in a German Hospital. My mother couldn't speak more highly of them. She was told that we love the English and i kid you not was given here own Private room.after a few days she was ready to leave but my mother insisted she stayed just in case and the top Guy there relented and let her stay a couple more days. That wouldn 't happen here in the UK.last year i spent 3 days in hospital and as soon as i was on the mend they threw me out even though i could hardly walk.

Treaties, politics, grudges, we should bin them all.

History is amazing, but food for thought was a physicist I saw on TV once, really bothered by the fact that in the vastness of space, with the probability of life being pretty much a certainty anywhere you have lightning/commet strikes/amino acids etc. that we've never picked up even the slightest trace or tell tale sign of intelligence, anywhere even in our own galaxy. What he concluded was that we don't survive, intelligent races, as soon as we develop advanced technology, we kill ourselves. Intelligent civilisations do occur, but we never overlap in time.

Happy thought for the day. but I think he was right.

Interesting theory and plausible.
To quote Dr. Spock........"Precisely. Whatever our lives might have been, if the time continuum was disrupted, our destinies have changed."
......whatever that means.
