Default Not the Head gasket?

being an Auto it could be the Transmission oil cooler in the radiator has cracked, putting oil into the coolant,

been-there-done-that.

Once I know the extent of the damage I will update this thread then do a wanted add if needed.

And I haven't a clue on the engine code

Take a look at your V5c , vehicle registration document, and half way down page 2 you should see item P.5 Engine number . First two letters are your engine code.

Just checked with my son and the spare engine we have in Oxford is a 2.3 out of an auto, if I remember correctly it is an ng engine code

most audi's are not worth a lot in bits after you get rid of a certain few items.

If the engine is indeed toast then why not look into something like a 1.8t to fill the space, cheap and easy to find, only downside is you lose the 5 cylinder sound.

Are the symptoms similar to head gasket failure?

Out of what car? Is it a straight forward swap?
