Hi.
I'm installing the air con in my cq. I've got question to those who have a/c in b2. I found one strange thing about it - It freezes only in recirculation mode? I wonder why they designed it that way? |

According to wiring diagrams, opposite - it recirculates when AC is on. I'll take a guess - it is probably too weak to cool 30+ degrees hot air to ~20 degrees. At least it has very tiny York AC compressor
![]() What kind of parts you want to use and which freon? I'm slowly planning AC for my B3, but at least B4 had R134A, so it is possible to acquire everything in order to use R134A. |

I have ac from my donor b2. So it is totally original. It runs on r134a.
I also thought that it could be ineffective at high outside temperatures, therefore they decided to make it operate in rec mode. I left this feature disconnected - we will see ;-) Few years ago i owned b3 coupe and put r134a instead of r12. Ac still works fine, after six years or more. I didn't change any seals, etc. Just put the r134a Last edited by jmm; 15-05-14 at 08:49 AM. |

Sounds like luck. R134A freon + oil is incompatible with seals intended for R12 freon. I guess that could make a lot of problems for original B2 AC, because it uses ancient compressors that looks like taken from museum. http://www.20v.org/r134a.pdf this is dealer manual how to convert R12 system to R134A - as stated, it's for systems with denso or zexel compressors only.

As I mentioned. I just put r134 and everything is fine for six years or even more - I'm still in touch with actual owner. I also knew some rabbits and passats b2 that runs on r134a without any problems.
