I don't get it. It's a fiesta. It's not really conveying any sense of sporting heritage, technical advance, shift in concepts, or simple out and out brute performance.
In short, it's a fiesta.

You could stick original dealer plates, dealer decals, and mud flaps on it, fill it up with fuel, tax it, test it, and I could maybe see it pulling £1100. Otherwise, I think it's a fiesta.

I would be happy to not pay £8k

I'll be happy when I find a Celica GT, c.1976, in running condition. I'll drool, and you can all abuse me at leisure.

I just want a Caspian Blue 1983 XR3i in mint standard and unmodified condition. A mint 1984 Orion Ghia Injection in the same conditon would be a close second. It looks like I have more chance of finding a nice mint unmolested Ur quattro.

It may be an unfashionable view, but to me Fords of the 1970-89 era seem to attract ludicrous levels of nostalgia which of course drives these prices. There are loads of us who had them, or whose Dads, neighbours, or whoever had them, and we go all rose-tinted... Some, like the Cosworths or XR3i's were fun but few if any of them were or are a patch on the Audis of the same era, and everyone forgets how ordinary most of them were, and how poorly most of them aged

I agree with all the above.
In the past I've owned (deep breath), Fiesta Supersport, XR2, XR2 TT turbo, XR3 (prairie yellow), XR3i, RS Turbo(s), 3dr Cosworth (x2), Mexico, RS2000 and an RS500.
Obviously I love my Fords, all were mint low-miles examples, but I tell you what, they weren't outstanding like my ur was to drive.
While re we re in recession, and people are getting no return on bank deposits, classic cars, fine wines etc will go up in value as people seek some safety and return for their savings.
Unfortunately,some cars become museum pieces, such is their value, o I would rather by an oil painting - no different to having a car you can't or daren't drive, you just sit and look at it.
However, sometime in the future, some people are going to get badly burnt when the economy recovers so that people want out of their £11,000 Fiesta, and will sob when they find its worth £5000.
Obviously, that's not the case with all cars (who would really pay £13m for a GTO, or £5m for a McLaren F1, but those are real specialist vRS for people who always will have money....
