Dave if the pump has been run dry it won't last for much longer, as they like to be wet (sat in petrol) all of the time, so if you were going to buy a new one to replace it I would still do so..

Davey did you get a new radiator thermoswitch and is it working correctly now, did you resolve the extraneous wire in the engine bay? Was it the screen washer pump connector or do you need me to have a look for the colour coding?
