hi, Can anyone tell me if any flywheel from a five cylinder engine will fit my MC engine or will it have to be one specifically for the engine?

Pretty much any I5 flywheel will bolt to the crank, but you need an MC or MB(?) unit for the timing pin to be correct.

thanks for the conformation, I am doing my nut trying to find a flipping flywheel! haha I have (as far as I am aware) everything I need for the 10vt conversion now but can't seem to source a flywheel that will fit. It would be a shame to give up just for that one lump of metal, I am starting to see why the 20vt conversion is more popular!

Might be a daft question, but would it be possible to mod the flywheel, to install a pin in the right location?
It is, after all, essentially only a pin, that sits in a specific position.

the big problem is the engine (2.2 10vt) i am planning on using came out of an auto. I assumed the flywheel that came out of the doner (1.8 8v) would be the same but the bolt holes for the crank are wrong.

Have you got the auto fly-wheel? If you have it could be used it to find out where the pin should be, then modify another I5 flywheel to suit.

Yes I have the auto flywheel, I was thinking to reference the pins as you say, I just can't seem to find a flywheel to buy! I didn't want to just buy any old flywheel if it would be different. Any ideas where I might find a suitable flywheel?
Your help is greatly appreciated |

I'll try and have a look when I get some time today, there is an MC flywheel sat in my workshop to measure. I will have one from my 2.3 NG engine coupe going spare before Christmas, maybe as early as this weekend, the car is due to be broken as soon as I get my MK II 16V on the road which I'm working on this week.. Anyway I could compare the two once it's stripped.

Dont forget, you can actually still buy the timing pins from audi for a couple of quid which should save you some hassle, then its a case of finding the position and drilling it correctly to take that pin on an interference fit.
