Default conversion from auto to manual

ok guys i have a 1983 audi 80 gl auto, also a 1985 80gl manual which i bought as a donor car, i love the 83 motor but auto is banjaxed, if i convert auto to manual will the car not be worth value cause it not factory car?

I don't think you need worry about that.

Why not take lots of pics of the job as you do it and post it up on here and/or send them into a magazine like Practical Classics? It will be useful to see and PC likes to publish that sort of thing, thus raising the profile of old German tin like ours against the usual plethora of MGs etc.

Shame the autobox is knackered as they are getting rarer. I had the same model as you and the autobox was great. I wasn't worried about grid starts etc, and the kickdown was respectable enough to get me out of tight spots when necessary.

Will on here (86audicoupe) got his autobox sorted for what seemed like reasonable money.

Not making any assumptions about your capacity to undertake the job.
Conversion to a manual may be problematic- especially if there are any major differences/clearance issues around the transmission tunnel. Some cars require a fair amount of metalwork being cut and patched, brackets made etc.
It might pay dividends to get a good look at the underside of both to compare, before charging ahead.

was thinking of scraping the car, but its the better of the 2 , i will save it as not many about and get the box overhauled.
