Default Oil pressure warning.

On my 20v coupe quattro with 7a engine, the oil warning on the self check has started to come on when I switch on the ignition. The oil pressure gauge also shows about half a bar with the engine still off. When I start the engine oil pressure rises and light goes out as normal. Any ideas??

Most likely either oil pressure gauge or failed dash pod. The gauge reads off the large sensor where as the warning works off a low pressure switch in the same place. Be sure to physically check the oil pressure though, don't assume gauge right and warning wrong!! Best safe than sorry!!
All the 5 pots suffer from sludge build up in the sump and can starve the back cylinders crank journals.

Pressure gauge showing something with engine off should be faulty sender. I had such thing in my A90q.
When u turn on ignition, is there only oil pressure warning from autocheck, or oil pressure warning light comes on as well?

Thanks. Just getting the oil light on the self check. I was thinking it might be a faulty sender or maybe just a bad connection. I think I'll give the sender connections a clean before I do anything else.
