Well indeed, much story behind this car, was told all along that the car was an MB with WR ancilliaries, but since the engine blew I can confirm absolutely that the engine is a WR but, noticed when restoring it that one of the front shock carriers was from an MB and the other from a WR (going on bearing sizes which were different each side!). Definitely had a shunt at some point going by that and panel fit.

It featured in one of the Audi mags, Audi Driver perhaps not too many years ago so it must've been restored to a decent level! I've got a scan of the article somewhere. Reckons on turbo and other engine upgrades. Found a number of Dialynx boxes behind the dash so it's definitely been fiddled with!

It's unfortunately the guy I bought it from that did the most damage, even moreso than whoever nicked it (why do you think it's always in a locked garage !)

Ballsacks, just saw, Cat C. Well done Dave! Ho hum, still drives straight and true, w

I remember seeing this car in the street where i lived in Wigan back in 1995 or 96.Then later in Crewe in around 2003.The reg number stuck in my memory plus even back then you didnt see that many on the road.

Because the police will confiscate it otherwise? do all the chassis plates match?

How's the new engine going anyway?

Everything about it smacks of WR. Green digi dash and the dial - vacuum locked diffs.

But the story went that it was one of the last WR's off the production line (believable) and the engine went pop under warranty and Audi were having trouble sourcing a complete WR engine to made the MB engine work with the the rest of the WR car. However after checking when engine went pop again in September it's got WR stamped on it so it's looking like a full WR and not some weird Audi hybrid!
